This year Entsorga is partnering for the first time with the World Plogging Championship, an innovative and unique competition that will take place from September 30 to October 2 in Pinerolo and the territories of the Unione Montana delle Valli Chisone e Germanasca. Amateur and professional runners will clean up the territory, but everyone will be called upon to do their part thanks to a truly packed program of events.
From 30th September to 2nd October, 100 athletes from all over the world, selected through qualifying races and a virtual challenge, will take part to the most environmentally friendly competition. Last year, almost 800 kg of abandoned waste were collected and recycled, avoiding the emission of 1,100 kg of CO2 in the atmosphere. Villar Perosa is going to become the global capital of plogging.
On Friday 30th September, there will be the Child Plogging Session, in collaboration with the schools of the valley. In the evening, the opening ceremony in Pinerolo will officially start the competition.
On Saturday 1st, the World Plogging Championship will happen. From the Municipality of Villar Perosa, ploggers will spread all over the valleys all day long, running with a pair of gloves and a purpose: collecting as much as they can to gain points. Distance and altitude of their path combined with quality and quantity of collected waste will generate the personal score of each athlete. The Champions will be discovered the following day in Pomaretto during the awarding ceremony. Moreover, everyone will have the opportunity to be part of the positive impact generated by the Championship: thanks to the partnership with Eso Sport, people who will bring their old trainers to Villar Perosa will recycle them building a completely new future. From those materials, indeed, pavements for playgrounds are created giving new purpose to waste – circularity at its best!
